Mixtape makes playlists, called mixtapes, from a few words. It collects only what it needs to do that, never sells your information, and has no ads or tracking. Mixtape never asks for your name, email or phone number.
In short: your words go to Mixtape's server to pick songs. Your mixtapes stay in your own iCloud. Apple handles all payments. You can delete your data at any time.
What Mixtape collects and why
- What you ask for. The words you type or say to describe a mixtape are sent to Mixtape's server to choose songs. Samples are kept to improve the results, stored without any identifier that links them to you. Please don't include private details you wouldn't want stored.
- Artists you filter out. If you add artists to Filter Artists, that list is sent with your requests so Mixtape can leave them out.
- Your Apple Music taste. With your permission, Mixtape reads your Apple Music listening (such as the artists you play most) to pick songs you'll like, and creates playlists in your Apple Music library when you save a mixtape. A summary of your taste is kept on Mixtape's server, linked only to your anonymous identifier. It's used only to make your mixtapes and is removed when you delete your data.
- Your tape balance. Your tapes are counted by RevenueCat (see Purchases below), tied to an anonymous identifier for your App Store account, so they stay with you if you reinstall. It is not your name or email.
- App security. Mixtape uses Apple's built-in security features to check that requests come from the genuine app. This says nothing about who you are.
What stays on your side
- Your mixtapes are stored on your iPhone and in your private iCloud, so they sync across your devices. Mixtape cannot see them.
- Your settings (appearance, haptics, filtered artists) are stored on your iPhone.
- Song artwork is cached on your iPhone so it loads quickly. You can clear it in Settings.
Voice input
When you use the microphone, your speech is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition, which may send audio to Apple to do this. Only the resulting text reaches Mixtape. Mixtape never receives or stores your voice.
Purchases
Tapes are bought through the App Store, and Apple processes the payment. Mixtape uses RevenueCat to confirm purchases and keep your tape balance. RevenueCat receives your purchase and transaction details, the anonymous identifier described above, and basic device and app information (such as iOS version and country) needed to validate purchases. What Mixtape doesn't do
- No ads.
- No tracking across other apps or websites.
- No selling or sharing your information with advertisers or data brokers.
Your Support ID
Because Mixtape has no accounts, it identifies you only by an anonymous ID for your App Store account. You can copy it in the app under Settings, Support ID. Include it when you email support, so your data can be found.
Who Mixtape shares with
Only the services that run Mixtape: Apple (Apple Music, App Store, iCloud, speech recognition), RevenueCat (purchases and tape balance), and Cloudflare, which hosts Mixtape's server. They process data only to provide those services.
How long it's kept
Your tape balance and purchase history are kept while you use Mixtape. Request samples are not linked to you. Mixtape's hosting provider, Cloudflare, briefly processes your IP address to deliver requests, as any website does.
Children
Mixtape is not directed at children under 13, and doesn't knowingly collect their information.
Your choices
- Turn off Apple Music access, the microphone or speech recognition at any time in iOS Settings.
- Delete mixtapes in the app, which removes them from iCloud too.
- Delete everything linked to your Support ID in the app under Settings, Delete My Data, or email support with your Support ID to get a copy or have it deleted. Unused tapes can't be recovered after deletion. So the free tapes can't be claimed twice, Mixtape keeps a record that they were given, which can't be traced back to you.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above will be updated. Important changes will be shown in the app.
